Founded 1925, affiliated 1925. Although the history of golf in the Donabate district can be traced back to 1906 when a private course of 6-holes under the management of the residential medical superintendent of Portrane Mental Hospital. This course was known as "The Doctors' Links'". The first meeting of what is now Donabate Golf Club was healed on 15th January 1925 on the premises of the Ulster Bank in Lower Sackville Street (Now O'Connell Street) as one of the founders a George Hamill was manager of the ranch. The six founding members were brothers George and Joseph Hamill, Benjamin Ralph and Alexander Samuel Alls hire, G. E. Mathews, and Charles Magwood. |

Donabate Golf Club won the Leinster Final of the Pierce Purcell Shield in 2007, when they beat Tullamore Golf Club by 4 matches to 1 match on Saturday 7th July at Rush Golf Club.They were drawn against Connacht Champions Barna Golf Club in the All-Ireland Semi-Final at Shandon Park Golf Club on Thursday 13th September.
First on the tee were Michael Fearon and Ciaran Kirwan who halved their match against Tim Tarpey and John Darby. They were followed by Douglas Roberson and Austin Kealy who had a resounding 7 and 6 win over John Murphy and Michael Murray. Next up was Ken Bradshaw and Brendan Bowe who had a convincing 6 and 5 win against Liam McGee and Eamon Kearney. The penultimate match had Dermot Cullen and Pat McCrudden against Brendan McLoughlin and Pat Walzer, they won their match by 4 and 3 and booked their place in the All-Ireland Final the following day. In the bottom match of Colm Browne and Joe Dowling was halved against Pat Ward and Shane O'Neill.
They met Ulster Champions Warrenpoint in the All-Ireland Final on Friday 14th who had beaten Munster Champions Woodstock Golf Club by 4 matches to 1 match in their Semi-Final.

The penultimate match of Dermot Cullen and Pat McCrudden against Kieran Caldwell and Andrew Ferguson went Warrenpoint’s way with a 2 and 1 win to clinch the green pennant for the Co. Down Club. The anchor match of Colm Browne and Joe Dowling beat Michael Redmond and Michael McGivern by 3 and 2. The Pierce Purcell Shield went to Warrenpoint Golf Club for the 3rd time on a score of 3 matches to 2 matches.
The Ladies of Donabate Golf Club beat Wicklow Golf Club in the All-Ireland Semi-Final of the Seniors Foursomes at Athlone Golf Club in 2007.
They met Larne Golf Club in the decider, when Pat Doran with Aileen Hanratty lost their match by 2 and 1 against Roma English with Sarah O'Neill in the first match. They were followed by the legendary Mary McKenna with Fionnuala Forde who had an easy 7 and 6 win over Joyce Robinson with Carole McMaw. So it was all down to the bottom match of Deirdre Bradshaw and Patricia Morris against Gail McNabb with Barbara O'Neill which went all the way to the 20th before the decision went to the ladies of Larne on a 2 matches to 1 result.
Congratulations to Mary McKenna who has been chosen to Captain the Curtis Cup Team a great achievement.
Mary McKenna was leading Irish Lady at the 22nd European Team Championship in Helsinki, where they finished fourth behind France, Italy and Switzerland in July 2002. Mary had rounds of 74 and 75. Mary McKenna won the Irish Senior Ladies' Open Amateur Championship at Co. Louth golf club on the 18th of September 2001 and we say Mary back on International duty when she was selected to play on the Irish Senior Ladies Team for the European Team Championship at Schonenberg Golf Club, Switzerland from the 3rd to the 7th of September. Mary was also on the, Senior team that played England at Woodbrook Golf Club on 21st and 22nd October 2001.
2004 Lady Captain Evelyn de Lacy (31) and her Captain's Prize Winner Pat Doran (4) were leading qualifiers in the Volkswagen-Irish Independent Lady Captain's Classic at Headfort Golf Club in August 2004 they qualified for the National Finals at Hermitage on 4th October.
Congratulations to Pat Doran who won the Druid's Glen-Irish Independent "Golfer of the Month" award for July in 2004. Pat playing of a handicap of (4) had a remarkable month. On the 4th and 6th she won the best Gross followed by a win in Class 1 on 13th with 36-points. She followed this with winning the Lady Captain's Prize with rounds of 39-points and 36-points and just to prove how good her game she returned 40-points on 27th followed by a Hole-in-One on the 2nd on the last day of the month. Pat received a limited edition of Robert Ballagh-Joseph Kelly together with a Fourball on both the courses at Druid's Glen.
Donabate Golf Club won the Leinster Final of the Barton Shield in 1965, when the team was, Tommy Bracken, Andy Doherty, Jimmy O'Neill, Jimmy Mooney and they were captained by Freddie McDonnell.
They won the Leinster Final of the Barton Shield again in 1969, when the team was, Jimmy Mooney with Jimmy O'Neill and Tommy Bracken with Andy Doherty, they were captained by Freddie McDonnell.
Donabate Golf Club won the Leinster Final of the Irish Senior Cup in 1968, when the team was, Andy Doherty, Tommy Bracken, Greg Singleton, Jimmy Mooney, Jimmy O'Neill, they were captained by Freddie McDonnell and Trevor Singleton was club captain that year.
Donabate Golf Club won the Leinster Final of the Jimmy Bruen Shield and were All-Ireland runners-up at Royal Co. Down in 1983, when the team was, Mick Fearon, Declan Kenny, Maurice Mohan, Fergie Timmons, Lar Hanway, Brendan Murphy, John McGroddy, Paddy McKenna, Brendan O'Flaherty, Ted Kelly, John French, Eamonn Purcell, they were managed by Joe Keely.

Traynor, D. Bridgette, M. Galvin, A. Moore, P. McDonagh, D. May, G. O'Connor, T. Crowe, S. Mulligan, S. Cagney, G. Hannon, they were managed by C. O'Neill and selected by J. Lahiffe and A. Doherty.
Donabate Golf Club won the O'Grady Cup in 1997 when the team was, John Galvin, Pat McCrudden, Des Bridgette, Austin Kealy, Ken Bradshaw, Irene Culleton, Marilyn Culleton, Collette Fitzgerald, Maeve Cairns, Olive Jordan, Nuala Galvin, Mick Traynor, Gus Hannon, Margaret O'Neill, Anne Nolan, Pat Traynor and Gaye Keane, they were selected by Vinnie Osborne and Peggy McCullough, managed and selected by Andy Doherty.
The Boys' of Donabate Golf Club were runners-up in the Smurfit in 1976 when the team was, Declan Sweeney, Terry O'Neill, Maurice O'Grady, David Singleton, Henry Hopkins and Wesley Singleton.
The Ladies of Donabate Golf Club won the Townsend Foursomes in 1983 when the team was, S. O'Connor, J. Johnston, Mary McKenna, M. Moran, T. O'Shaughnessy, C. Farrell, A. O'Reilly, P. Garvey and they were captained by A. Menton.
They won the Townsend Trophy in 1994 when the team was, Peggy McCullough, Deirdre Bradshaw, Sadie O'Connor, Dolores Brady, Pat Doran, Elaine Greany, Aileen Flynn, Lesley Costello, Noreen O'Driscoll, Mary McKenna and Teresa O'Shaughnessy, they were managed by Marie Brady.
Miss Mary McKenna played Curtis Cup from 1970 to 1986, Vagliano Trophy from 1969 to 1987, and Espirito Santo in 1970, 1972, 1974, 1976, and 1986, becoming captain in 1990. She represented Ireland from 1968 to 1991, again in 1993, was European Champion from 1969 to 1991. She was selected for Ireland in the European Ladies Home Internationals at Tubbercurry in 1987, at Pals, Spain in 1989, at Wentworth in 1991, and Golf Club Milano, Monza, in 1995, and she played for the Ireland in the Girls Home Internationals in 1966 and 1967 against Wales, and she won the Scratch Match Play Foursomes together with Miss Mary Gorry, of Baltinglass in 1977, and the Stroke Play Foursomes together with Miss Evelyn Hearn, of Waterford, in 1988 and 1993.
Miss Theresa Moran won the Scratch Match Play Foursomes together with Miss Sheena O'Brien-Kenny, of Grange, in 1978 & 1979.
Vivienne Singleton played for the Irish Girls in 1965 against Wales.
Emily Gallagher played for Ireland in the Girls Home Internationals at Forfar Golf Club in 1997.Emily Butler was selected on the ILGU Senior B squad in November 2000 and was a reserve for The Irish Girls International Team in 1998.
