Course Description
The view from the clubhouse is magnificent, embracing as it does the practically the whole course with the lofty Comeragh Mountains in the distant background. On this site, which is gently undulating, intercepted by two streams, Capt. H. C. Tipper of Walton Heath has laid out as magnificent an 18 hole championship course as ever pleased the eye. Societies are welcome and group rates are available. Tramore was voted joint No. 28 Parkland/Inland Course in Ireland by "Backspin" Irelands leading Golf magazine in 2008, the panel comprised of a selection of 52 Professional and amateur golfers throughout Ireland.

Club History

The "Golfing Annual" 1896-97 records the Waterford and Tramore golf club as having affiliated to the GUI. There is some confusion as to the exact date of institution of this club. It would appear that the club went into decline as a result of storm damage that hit the club on St. Stephen's Day, 1896, when the clubhouse was destroyed and completely covered some of the best greens with shingle. The "Irish Times" on the 1st January 1902, reports "The first AGM of the recently revived Tramore Golf Club was held in the Grand Hotel on Monday. The course is situated on the Burrow, the golf clubhouse, last hole and first tee being only a stone’s throw from the grandstand of the well-known racecourse. The course is on the land belonging to Mr. Martin J. Murphy J. P., at a rent of nothing a year"

The club moved later that year to an eighteen-hole nearer the town that was laid out by Tom Hood of the Royal Dublin. The "Irish Golfing Guide" 1912 records another tragic episode in the club's history "A new course has been laid out by Willie Park, owing to the inroads of the sea on the old course. The new course promises well and commands beautiful views of the sea and land". The club remained at this location until a new eighteen-holes were built at its present location in 1937. The course was designed by Capt. H. L. C. Tippet, of Walton Heath, on a 130-acre site.
